Seferihisar Municipality team with Mayor Tunc Soyer joined the 7th International Slowfood Congress organized in Chengdu UNESCO awarded gastronomy city of China between 29 September – 01 October. Seferihisar also joined a conference on global issues and mainly climate change.

The participants discussed the possible strategies on stopping the climate change and stated the links between food and climate change.

"The climate change is not a coming issue, it happens right now. The humanity must act together. All individual efforts and preferences create a difference, but it is the collective effort, which would initiate the change. "

The meeting named ‘We eat the world” hosted the idea that we do consume the world and will have to find a new planet to live in the future. The session called "We have to protect the agricultural lands in Africa” was about the purchase of the agricultural lands in Africa by the big companies and estranging the local people from farming.

During the congress an anti-fast food campaign has been started with mottos ‘menuforchange’, ‘eatlocal’ and ‘slowfood’ . The 500 international Slowfood members at the conference were asked to support this campaign.

The International Slowfood Organisation highlighted the importance of the seed diversity: "We shall not lose the tremendous variety of seeds, which is valuable as treasure. There are 80.000 kinds of edible seeds in the world, but only 150 kinds are produced in large quantities and only 8 of them are produced on global scale. Therefore we need to more diversity of seeds.”

Seferihisar Municipality announces that it is a supporter of the campaign and would like to invite you to join.
