The most delicious olive oil appetizers, pastry and desserts were selected at the Local Culinary Contest at Sigacik citadel.
The contest was organized by Izmir Governorship, Izmir City Tourism Directorate, Seferihisar Municipality, Izmir Cooks Association and Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Applied Sciences School in the scope of the 41st Tourism Week between April 15-22 2017.
45 COURSES COMPETED
45 women living in Seferihisar joined the contest with olive oil appetizers, pastry and desserts they prepared. The meals were evaluated by the Jury consisted of members of Izmir Cooks Association, one representative from each of the organizers and three children from Seferihisar Children Municipality.
THE REWARD IS 1000 TL
Serpil Idgu won first prize wşith the seasonal casserole on artichoke heart in the olive oil appetizer category. In the pastry category Sencan Cakir won the first prize with a special noodle and Halide Tek became the winner of the dessert category with baklava with granulated sesame (tahin). The winners were awarded with 1000 TL’s, 1st runner-ups with 500 TL’s and 2nd runner-ups with 250 TL’s.
THE COMBINED EFFORT IS IMPORTANT
Seferihisar Mayor Tunc Soyer made a speech on the occasion of the culinary contest: "This contest is a hallmark as a joint effort of the municipality, ministry, university and cooks association. I hope that this effort will be a sample for similar organizations in the future.”
IZMIR’S CULINARY HERITAGE IS AMONG WORLD’S RICHEST
Murat Karacanta, the Vice-President of Izmir City Tourism Directorate mentioned the ancient and rich culinary heritage of Izmir. He stated: "Izmir’s cuisine, specially the vegetable, olive oil and greens dishes are considered among the most delicious food all around the world. Therefore gastronomy tourism has a huge potential along culture tourism in Izmir. We believe this competition may provide a new insight to the culinary culture, which evolves and is being forgotten due to modern living conditions.
FOLK DANCES PERFORMANCE
After the contest, the youth teams of Ukraine, Macedonia, North Cyprus Turkish Republic, Gaziantep Oguzeli and Seferihisar Municipalities performed folk dance shows during 5th Folk Dances Festival in the scope of April 23rd.
