Turkey’s Slow Cities Will Pioneer The World

International Cittaslow Presidential Coordination Meeting was hold on 09-12 November in Ulvik of Norway.

Seferihisar Mayor Tunç Soyer as the Cittaslow Turkey Coordinator participated in the conference, where the members of the network decided on 2018 strategy and practices.

There were two important conclusions regarding Turkey were made at this meeting. Mudurnu’s application has been accepted with positive remarks. Mudurnu will be the 15th member of the Cittaslow family in the coming months.

The second conclusion is about the approval of a Turkey’s project on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of UN, the network will support this project.

Turkey Cittaslow cities accepted the 17 goals set by UN for the world nations to reach until 2030 as their roadmap. Each member of Cittaslow Turkey will arrange an annual progress report for UN’s consideration. In this manner they will prove how successful local solutions can be developed against global issues.

Mayor Tunç Soyer said: "The document was a sign of commitment of 14 Cittaslow cities from Turkey and 3 from North Cyprus Turkish Republic to the SDG. Our commitment letter will be recommended to 238 Cittaslow cities in 30 countries. Turkey’s pioneering act was appreciated by all Presidents in the network, which made us proud.”
