The mandarin zest tablets produced in Depark Teknopark of Dokuz Eylül University have a high concentration of vitamin C and can be used as food supplement.
Özlem Tokuşoğlu, Assistant Professor from Celal Bayar University Engineering Faculty Food Engineering and Dokuz Eylül University Teknopark Spil Innova Ltd.Sti Manager, announced that together with students Ugurcan Şahin ve Banu Aşkın they produced mandarin tablets high in antioxidants, flavonoids and vitamin C. The tablets are a new products and protected by licence.
The detailed chemical analysis of the mandarin tablets also indicated carotenoid, beta caroten and antocianin, also naringenin and hesperidin as major element.

Asst. Professor Tokusoglu said that the raw material and technical support of Seferihisar Municipality is highly appreciated. The mandarin zests have been dried to reduce the moisture levels to a minimum to bring into powder. The powder afterwards formed into tablets free of preservation materials and chemicals.
Mandarin Zests Turned into Soap
Tokusoglu said, thanks to the antibacterial and antimicrobial specification of the mandarin zests, they can be used as cleaning material. As a result, their company produced soaps made of zests and olive oil.
The mandarin zest project has been the first health project of Depark Teknopark.
