The first term of students were graduated from the Slow Food Atelier founded for preserving the local flavours of Seferihisar.
The Slow Food Project, founded in collaboration with Seferihisar Municipality, Hıdırlık Agricultural Development Unity, Slow Food Support Agency and Izmir Economy University aims to increase the sustainable tourism opportunities for Seferihisar.
Thirteen women attended the 72-hour cooking classes in Tepecik district and practiced the prepare dishes special to the region like stuffed bread, stuffed artichokes, manti with chickpeas, sweet tarhana, yuvalaca, stuffed chard, pumpkin dish and dessert, mandarin dessert, rolling pin dessert and samsades.
The students received their certificates from Seferihisar Mayor Tunç Soyer. Mayor Soyer tasted the local food cooked by the students: "Seferihisar has a vibrant local cuisine, all undiscovered, never presented to the visitors. As we started our official duty in 2009, one of our primal tasks was to promote the local cuisine. Our efforts paid off, today thousands of visitors come to see the Sığacık Sunday Market to taste local dishes. The women started to earn money due to the market sales. They will also be able to sell the home-made dishes on www.seferipazar.com. We also work on a restaurant project, where the women can prepare and serve the home-made food. "
Kitchen Atelier is open on Mondays and Wednesdays on the new term courses.
